old school VS new school
old school不是“老，旧学校”的意思， 而是指something that is antique or old-fashioned(某个东西很复古风的，过时的)。比如， 以前火到国外的《甜蜜蜜》，原来很流行的大卷发在现在看来都很old-school:
old-shool movie: 老式电影
old-shool cars：老式汽车
old-shool music：老式音乐
old-school record player: 老式唱机
My dad is still using Nokia. The phone is so old-school.
我爸爸还在用诺基亚。那个手机太老式了。
相反， new-school则用来形容something that is new and modern（新式的）
-I like this new-school way of life. I can get -anything over my phone.
我喜欢这种新式的生活方式。 什么东西都可以在手机上买到。
-Your way of teaching kids is really new-school.
你教孩子的方式很新颖。

“他没上过学”英语怎么说？
“他没上过学”不能说：He hasn't been to school. 这句话只能说明他没去过学校这个地方，但“他没上过学”是指他没在学校接受过教育， 这时候说：
He's not schooled：他没上过学。
The girl is well schooled. 这个女孩受过良好教育。
在美国，很多孩子没有去学校读书，而是父母给他们：
home school: 家校， 在家里教育孩子
The kids who are home-schooled are usually not sociable.
那些在家里上学的孩子往往不是那么地融入社会。

母校可不是“mother school"
把母校说成mother school是地地道道的中式英语。有很多著名高校都有以”alma mater"命名的雕像，而且都是女性。
alma mater来自拉丁语，意为滋养生命的母亲， 从18世纪开始，英国人它用来代之自己毕业的大学。
